Luminis Health improves throughput & access at one of the nation’s busiest ERs

August 19, 2024

The Challenge

Luminis Health operates one of the nation’s top 40 busiest emergency departments in the country. Luminis Health Anne Arundel Medical Center in Annapolis, Maryland, sees nearly 100,000 cases annually, and like other areas of the country, the emergency department experienced a whiplash effect from a drop in volume followed by a sharp rise in demand.

Wait times increased alongside patient elopement rates. Nurse, administrative, and physician staff burnout was already a concern as a result of the pandemic. In response, the Luminis Health leadership team recognized the need for a sustainable long-term solution, rather than overburdening staff for temporary fixes in a rapidly changing environment.

The Results

Luminis Health partnered with Fabric to alleviate pressure by digitally transforming their ED experience:

  1. Digitize the patient intake process
  2. Educate patients and answers questions about their visit
  3. Improve follow-up scheduling and PCP attachment
  4. Implement a digital discharge process

The impact of the Fabric In-Person Care Suite came in qualitative feedback and robust statistically significant metrics.
